A word of caution when booking hotels in Dubai
Dubai’s liberal approach may shock its neighbours within the UAE and the Middle East at large. But underneath the opulence and the glitz, Dubai remains a deeply conservative Emirate in its morals and spiritual values
Know the realities of what is acceptable and unacceptable before you travel. See https://www.detainedindubai.com/public-decency.
It is illegal in Dubai for unmarried couples to to have sexual relations or cohabit. Hotels in Dubai require you to show your passports and a photocopy will be taken. Different last names may raise eyebrows, but a polite assertion that your partner is your “wife” or “husband” is enough to smooth out your check-in.
Same-sex friends are advised to book separate rooms. Homosexuality is a criminal offence in Dubai and travellers can be deported.
The Best of Dubai Hotels
One of the best-known hotels in Dubai is the opulent Burj Al Arab Jumeirah Hotel. Each floor comes with its own Butler catering to your every need. Each suite in the Burj Al Arab is two storeys, furnished luxuriously to over the top
The selling point of the Burj Al Arab is the attention to detail not seen anywhere else in the world. You may find your room decorated with your favourite flowers or a platter full of your favourite chocolate bar when you return. You may find the powder room stocked with exquisite brands of perfumes and your favourite shampoo. There may even be a surprise birthday party just for you – with your favourite band playing live with you.
Your bookings, appointments and schedules are personally taken care of so you never have to worry during your stay at the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah.
Another marvel of architecture in Dubai that is a hotel and a resort is the magnificent Atlantis The Palm. It is located on the apex of the Palm Jumeirah, with nothing obstructing its view of the Arabian Gulf.
Atlantis The Palm is a nautical themed resort based on the legend of the lost city of Atlantis – but it has a distinctly Middle Eastern theme. Everything from the wave pattern carpets, to the door-handles to the sea-shell shaped lights will remind you of being underwater.
And if that is not enough, the Atlantis features an 11 million litre Lost Chambers Aquarium and Ambassador Lagoon that is home to over 65,000 marine animals – making it one of the largest aquariums in the world !
Atlantis The Palm is attached to the similarly lost world themed Aquaventure Water Park. It features swimming with dolphins and a shark safari.
The Aquaventure water Park and the Lost Chambers Aquarium are free to access for the guests at Atlantis The Palm.

Booking Dubai Hotels without a Credit Card
If you are booking a hotel online, you will normally require a credit card. You will then have to present the same credit card at the check-in time.
Credit Cards serve as collateral, in case the hotel staff find deliberate damage in the rooms caused by guests after they have left the property.
Credit Cards also make it easy for hotels and guests to charge auxiliary services as required. These may include room service, long distance phone calls, movies on demand, parking, laundry etc.
If you do not have a credit card at the time of check-in, or your credit card failed to authorize, then the hotel will require a cash deposit before they hand you the keys (or access cards). The deposit will be returned to you in full amount at check-out time, provided you left the room as it was provided to you.
If you do not have a credit card, you can reserve hotel rooms, by simply calling the hotel. If they agree, you will have to provide them your information. They may ask you for your driver’s license number or your Passport number to hold your reservation.
Sometimes, hotels will ask you to wire transfer a deposit amount in order to guarantee your reservation. Once the hotel confirms it has received your deposit, you don’t have anything else to worry about until you reach your destination.
Some hotel managers will ask you to pay for your stay in advance either in full or 50% at check-in time and 50% at check-out time.
With a credit card processing, these formalities can easily be eliminated.
Below are some hotels in Dubai, that are flexible in not requiring a Credit Card. Most of these hotels are cheap and are located in the old city.
