United Pigeons Toronto Confluence

2008 Session, Union Station, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
“Mr. Secretary, scouts have reported of intruders from south of the border. Unconfirmed reports also point to a certain Hamiltonian attempting to show them a good time.”
“Do you have a strategy ?”
“Yes Sir. We will target the Hamiltonian first by pooping into his lunch …”

Jaffer, this is the most hilarious post of the year! I’m dreadfully sorry you were targeted for the pigeon poop bomb, but wasn’t the meal just awesome up to that point?!?!
Thank you again for showing us the best time in Toronto. Ann, Regan and I really meant it when we said you would make an excellent tour guide. Hope the ride home wasn’t too painful and that you caught up on your sleep by now. We are exhausted, but it’s a good exhaustion because of the memories we have of our visit with you.
I want gelato!!!! RIGHT NOW! And I have no idea where to get it. See what you did?
Hey ! You’ve reached home ! Yea I was actually lucky it was my hand because I was still eating !
The ride back to Hamilton was normal as usual and I was in bed as soon as I reached home.
I’ll have the gelato on your behalf the next time when I go to Corso Italia. (And it’ll be double chocolate).
LOL, great picture Jaffer! The “United” bit in the title made me think of Manchester United, the football team :).
Ha ha ! Man. United … whatever !
I saw those same pigeons myself. But did one really poop in your lunch? Holy crap!
It actually got my left hand while I was holding the knife. But that signaled the end of my lunch anyway !
Oh you poor thing! Pigeon poop is never good, but on your hand?….when you’re eating? eeeuckkk!
I want to know what Gelato is please.
Babs - beetle’s last blog post… Career change was life changing!
Hey Babs ! Gelato (Italian for “frozen pleasure”) is simply ice-cream that is made from milk instead of cream. It is denser, is much richer in flavour and is much creamier than regular ice-cream.
We went to the best Gelato joint in town. With my eyes staring at more than 50 flavours my brain stopped thinking clearly until I sat down.
Kathy gave an awesome live commentary on her chocolate cone. You had to be there.

Just wanted to drop in my comments on the shot. IMO, this shot’s main strong points in terms of evoking viewers’ interest, is that it employs the Rule Of Thirds, parallel lines and the vanishing point effect quite effectively.
Also of interest is that the depth field is pretty wide for an f/2.8 aperture. This is because an f-stop on a point-and-shoot is typically equivalent to that of a much higher f-stop on a dSLR. My guess is that an f/4.8 on a point-and-shoot is just the same as f/16 in dSLR terms.
A little GIMPing and the sky and the washed out areas could be given a new effect.
May the lens be with you my friend
.
The rule of thirds is a core concept of graphic design. In fact I am designing my new theme based around it.
I use a phone-camera and I’ve learned that I can take the best picture in the first shot. If I try any harder, I’m never satisfied.
Besides, the pigeons were not going to sit there still for more than 10 seconds !
Power to the lens masters
Jaffer’s last blog post… Good riddance Summer !
Har! Well, I hope they are gone by the time I’m in TO in October… beautiful photo BTW. I will have to hunt that gelato down while there.

You gotta love the pigeons. Sometimes I wish there were still around in the Duomo in Milan
