Playing with Flock 1.0 Beta
Flock is a Firefox based browser, that is developed with social networking in mind. I have been using it for a year and a half and it has become my favourite browser on Windows. I am writing this post in Flock’s built in blog editor. Flock 1.0 beta was released this morning, just one day before it’s second birthday !
The installation and migration of settings were fairly simple. It won’t be any different for those who have installed Firefox hundreds of times ! The very first thing I noticed was a new splash screen.

The blue is a change from the mean looking all black splash. And the word “Flock” in front of a sun-rise behind the clouds seems to give its competitors a message !
The overall look and interface is no different from the current 0.9.1.3 version, but I did notice a new button on the Flock Toolbar called “People Sidebar”.

The people sidebar shows friend updates and subscriptions from Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and Flickr. It has a much better interface that the Firefox and Netvibes plug ins and you can interact with all your friends from within the sidebar ! TechCrunch goes into a few more details about the people sidebar.
The “Accounts and Services” has been moved to the sidebar as well so it provides a good glance of all the blogging, photo-sharing and bookmarking services supported by Flock.
My favourite changes are to “My World”, that displays all your favourite things and updates in one page. The new layout is clean and the colours are an eye candy !

If you like Firefox and if you addicted to social networking, then you’ll love Flock ! I recommend you give it a try ! Just click the button below:
