April Showers for Blogging

I have to admit it’s been a slow month for me when it comes to keeping in touch with my friends whether it be via e-mail, Facebook or blogging. But I know it’s not just me because several feeds in my RSS reader have slowed down as well. And there are several bloggers who have admitted only recently that they are feeling “depressed” about blogging.
I remember when I took an official three month hiatus from my website in 2006 at around this time of the year. Last year in March I excused myself by declaring I was busy studying for exams but I only wrote again late in May !
When I looked back at my posting frequency on my old blog as well as this one, I saw a pattern. There was a bunch of posts published on dates close to one another, when my enthusiasm and excitement level were at an all time high. This was followed by a gap of a sparse number of posts, a time when I didn’t feel like writing or I was having a writer’s block. And this was again followed by another bunch of posts and so on.
It looks like my enthusiasm for blogging comes and goes at approximately same time every year much like a Cosine wave. I say “Cosine wave” because at time t=0 the value on the y-axis is maximum.

To illustrate, I have here my Zealousness vs. Time graph. As mentioned, my enthusiasm level hits rock bottom at around April but slowly picks up in May and peaks in June. It also reminds me of a couple of lines from the song “April Showers”:
Though April showers may come your way
They bring the flowers that bloom in May
So if it’s raining, have no regrets
Because it isn’t raining rain, you know…
During this week, I need to get my priorities in order. I have a couple of posts long overdue and finish them before Blog Bloke has my head ! I’ve also had a breakthrough with Textpattern and will discuss that with you. I am also looking into other resources to expand my blog - video-blogging is one of them but first I need to save for a good camera. I guess that can wait another day.
Most importantly, I’ll be reading your blogs in the meantime, so expect my comments and untill then - Cheers !
